Killing Tree Roots

The key to killing tree roots is suffocation. One way to suffocate tree roots is to pave over them. Another way is to apply a herbicide called Roundup on the stump or cut roots. Knowing how to kill tree roots is the same as knowing how to kill a tree. Tree roots need to breath and if they are suffocated, the tree will die. Paving over tree roots, even mulching too deeply over tree roots will slowly suffocate the tree and will end up killing trees that have their roots covered.

I also used SBK on a tree stump that worked but on another which I think was alder it didn't work very well at all. Digging out the main roots and then painting the sbk onto the saplings that appear seems to work ok.
