Preparing Galvanized Steel for Paint

Preparing galvanized steel for paint is quite easy. As galvanized steel is treated with a coating to reduce rust. You need to clean and rough up this coating before painting. Wash the steel with hot soapy water, then rinse with hot water and allow to dry thoroughly. Then use a solution of half ammonia, half water and spray the steel completely, rinse and allow to dry again. Now its time for sandpaper, use sandpaper about 240 grit, and sand the entire surface. Wipe down with a tack cloth to remove all dust from sanding. Once the steel is completely sanded, and wiped you can begin to paint. Use a good metal primer, and then a good metal paint.
