Derived Quantities

Derived quanitites are defined in terms of the seven base quantities through a system of quantity equations. The SI derived units for these quanitities are obtained from these equations and the seven SI base units. Okay, that didn't make very much sense to me either. The information was obtained from: http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/units.html. They do go much further in depth with explaining the concept and how it works. There are even a few charts there that will assist you even more!

Other quantities, called derived quantities, are defined in terms of the seven base quantities via a system of quantity equations. The SI derived units for these derived quantities are obtained from these equations and the seven SI base units.
