English Surnames
English surnames are names that are simply passed down in the family. The English surnames started in England as early as the 11th century. Not all the people of England took part in having surnames in the beginning, some areas later started using surnames. Once entered into to baptism with your surname, you would most likely not be able to be married under the same name or buried under a third name. Surnames in England derived from four different sources occupational surnames, patronymic + matronymic surnames , descriptive surnames, and geographical or local surnames . Some examples of surnames are Johnson, Smith, Allen, and many more.
