Types of Literary Tone

Tone is a literary technique that is a part of composition, which encompasses the attitudes toward the subject and toward the audience implied in a literary work. Tone may be formal, informal, intimate, solemn, somber, playful, serious, ironic, condescending, or many other possible attitudes. Although there are different types of literary tone, an author must determine when is the right time for a specific tone. The person that controls the type of literary tone when writing the composition. Often times, the type of literary tone is a reflection of how the author is feeling at the time of writing the composition.
