Copperhead Snakes
Copperhead snakes are pit vipers or crotalids. They are named for two heat sensing pits between their eyes and nostrils used to locate prey. Copperhead snakes are extremely poisonous and up to 8,000 snake bites are attributed to them annually. Copperhead snakes can be found in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and parts of Mexico.
