Dragonfly Nymph

The dragonfly Nymph is the "teenage" form of the dragonfly. They are short and chunky with wing pads. They have six legs that are located near the head. The dragonfly nymph is about 18-49 mm long. The will live on plants, around stones or at the bottom of ponds. Their diet consists of other insects or each other. The nymph crawls out of the water and molts into their adult stage. Here is a nymph from a dragonfly of the Aeshnidae family (i presume it is, since the particular shape and colour pattern), feeding on some mosquito larva.

This is a dragonfly nymph. I’m not sure what species, but it was less than an inch long so it is probably one of the smaller ones. They all look a lot alike at this stage, and I guess the best way to find out the species is to let them grow up and see what they turn into.
