Fire Flow Residual Pressure

Testing the fire flow residual pressure is an easy thing to do. This is just measuring the water pressure that comes out of a fire hydrant. They do this often to different fire hydrants to make sure they will be able to handle fires. If you would like more information on them, go to www.flowtest.com. Predicted Flow – The flow rate predicted to be at a given residual pressure. A fire flow test is used to determine Static Pressure, Residual Pressure and Test Flow Rate. These measurements are used to arrive at Predicted Flow.

A pressure which you determine is the lowest that the hydrant would be pulled down during actual use. NFPA states that the basis for fire flow calculations will be 20 psi residual, however in low pressure areas they allow calculations based on one-half the static pressure.
