How Bias Can Be Identified

There are many ways to identify bias. In a newspaper article for example, first consider what the author of a piece is trying to prove. What is the point the author is trying to make. Then consider the audience. Does the author present opposing views on the subject matter? Does the piece seemed fair and balanced? If not, chances are the author is trying to evoke a certain emotion without presenting both sides of an issue there is probably some degree of bias in the piece.
