The tongue is a muscle in the mouth that manipulates food for chewing and swallowing. The tongue is made up of mainly skeletal muscle. The tongue's main purpose is to taste. Most of the tongue's upper surface is covered with taste buds. The tongue also aids in talking. The tongue is kept moist by saliva and is supplied with blood vessels and muscles to help it move.
