The most common type of wasp is the yellow jacket, known by its black and yellow stripes. Yellow jackets can also be other colors including black and white or red. Other wasps include the paper wasp, potter wasp, and cuckoo wasp. There are 700 species of paper wasps worldwide. There are 3000 species of potter wasps world wide. There are over 3000 species of cuckoo wasps worldwide.

There are many different types of wasps and usually quite a few species of each type. I'm not as familiar with the smaller kinds, but can make a good guess as to which group they belong. I also don't have nearly as many photos of wasps as I have stories about their behavior, for two reasons.
