Fireflies often eat other insects. But they also have been known to eat flower parts and pollen. Another part of a firefly's diet can include earthworms and snails. And sometimes, fireflies do not eat anything whatsoever during their brief lifespan. Fireflies are harmless to humans. They don't bite, have stingers or pincers. As for the eating habits of fireflies: no one is really sure. Some report that adults don't eat at all, others believe that they feed on nectar and pollen. Female fireflies lay eggs in the soil. Four weeks later larvae are born.

Fireflies are carnivorous. They eat other insects, small animals in the soil, and snails. Fireflies overwinter as larvae buried in the soil and emerge in the spring to feed. In summer, they pupate for about 2½ weeks within a small earthen cell before emerging as adults.
