Aaliyah Haughton, born York 16 January 1979; died Marsh Harbour, the Bahamas 25 August 2001.
Aaliyah was at the forefront of the Nineties' mainstream acceptance of R+B . She had just filmed a video shoot in the Bahamas, when the plane crashed right after take off. Extra weight from baggage they had been warned to leave behind but refused is said to be the cause of the crash. She was 22.
