Because of its importance in navigation, the anchor was regarded in ancient times as a symbol of safety. The Christians, adopted the anchor as a symbol of hope in future existence. The right eye of Horus is the Sun, his left, the Moon. Together they confer protection from evil and misfortune. The amulet is a magic charm worn to bring good luck and protection against illness, accidents and evil forces. The bat is a symbol of good fortune in the East, it represented demons and spirits in medieval Europe.
