Differences between Consensus and Conflict Models

The American justice system works under two theories, the consensus and conflict models. The difference between consensus and conflict models stems from a fundamental concept: whose needs should be served first? The consensus model states that the systems should collaborate in a uniform manner named "justice," working towards a common outcome or goal. This model is considered mainly an analytical tool. In the conflict model, collaborative agencies do not focus on one common goal. They focus on serving either their own interest or those of the people involved in the system, and how they can improve their personal circumstances. Although both of these are only theories, it is increasingly difficult for agencies to communicate and work together. These models are used to understand and plan the best method of doing so.
