Where would I find descriptions of Roman Catholic Nuns and Sisters Religious Habits --actual details of the making of them would be excellent. But, general descriptions would also be acceptable. The Chapman collection of Gonzaga University is somewhat useful.

I agree, nuns should wear their habits. It showed sepeation from lay people. I attended Catholic school where we had Sisters of Mercy. ... I think if the nuns stayed in their traditional habits there would be more religious influence on the young people today, which is greatly needed. Who ever decided to drop the habits...

You might ask your library if they can obtain a copy of “Guide to the Catholic Sisterhood in the United States” by Thomas P. McCarthy. This was printed in several editions through the 1950s and 60s. It contains good photographs and descriptions of traditional habits with their details for over a hundred orders.
