Prudent Man
Generally speaking, a prudent man is someone who is wise, responsible, a visionary and who acts in the best interest others. The prudent man rule is used in the financial and investment business. This rule originated in 1830 by Judge Samuel Putnum. The rule states that persons who have the responsibility to act as a fiduciary for others should act with diligence, care, skill and intelligence as it relates to investing other people's money. This rule is subject to interpretation and does not prevent persons for getting involved in speculations which may result in severe loss and possible banckruptcy. In some states this rule is enacted and is also known as the Prudent Investor Act (Rule).
