Rules for Marrying an Illegal Immigrant
Marrying an illegal immigrant is not an immediate way to get someone U.S. citizenship. If you do marry an illegal immigrant, your new spouse can still be deported to their country of origin and may have a 3 to 10 year ban on reentry to this country. The only exceptions are if your new spouse had an employment based petition, labor certification, or a relative petition filed on their behalf prior to May 2001. It is best to consult a lawyer that specializes in immigration law to review your current situation and to find a solution that benefits everyone.
