Smudging Prayers

Smudging prayers is a sacred ceremony that is performed with the burning of herbs or incense to release their fragrance and energy into a room. Once the herbs and/or incense is burning, the fire is extinguished so the smoke is left to rise toward heaven. It is put into a vessel such as an incense burner, shell, bowl, or carved stone. This practice has been done for hundreds of years by many cultures and traditions. It is believed that the rising smoke directs our prayers to the Creator. It is thought of as the link to the Creator and obtaining positive energy. Our Native American Indians practiced smudging prayers. This practice is still used today.
