What Is a Catholic Wake

Many non-Catholics wonder what is a Catholic wake. The wake provides an opportunity for family and friends to view the body of their beloved one last time. Often people leave gifts and other tokens held dear to the deceased. A Catholic wake also gives time for people to grieve together. Traditionally the body is entombed three days after death. A Catholic funeral is 'technically' not allowed to have a eulogy. These will happen at the wake. A Catholic wake has visiting times, followed at the close of visiting by a prayer service.
