Wedding Reception Itinerary

A wedding reception itinerary can vary according to religious values and local customs, but generally a wedding reception includes two important main aspects: food and dance. The meal usually is a seated dinner where guests are served by wait staff or a buffet where guests will help themselves. Prior to the dinner starting, there generally is a prayer. Then the bride and groom and bridal party are served food first followed by the rest of the guests. While guests are eating sometimes speeches may be given by the best man and then the maid of honor, followed by the parents speeches. The last step in the food aspect of the reception is the wedding cake. The bride and groom will go to the cake for pictures as they cut the first piece of cake with their hands together, symbolic of the fact that they are no longer two, but one flesh. They will then feed each other a bite or two. The kitchen staff will then cut the remainder of the cake and serve the guests, saving the top of the cake for the bride and groom to take with them afterwards and eat on their first year anniversary. Now everyone is full of wining and dining and it's time for the groom to make a short thank you for coming speech and invite everyone to begin dancing! The dancing commences with the first dance for the wedding couple only. Then the bridal party gets a song all their own. Next a father/bride song followed by a mother/son song. Finally it is open dancing for everyone with lots of popular favorites. The wedding party may decide to include line dancing or games at will. Finally, the last dance comes and it's time for the bride and groom to make a quick exit to head for the honeymoon suite. Sometimes the reception will continue long after the bride and groom have left, but it is a personal choice the family makes when planning the wedding festivities. http://weddings.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Wedding_Reception_Itinerary

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, but it did strike me as somewhat odd that neither the bride nor the groom had taken the time to research a sample wedding reception itinerary! After all, it was their own wedding ceremony and wedding reception.
