At What Speed Should an Airbag Deploy

Air bags were designed as an additional safety feature to vehicles. Airbags started on only the driver side, then there was both driver and passenger air bags. Now some vehicles even have side air bags. Air bags are designed to deploy in both front and rear end accidents. Hitting a solid barrier at 8 to 14 mph should deploy the air bag. The tricky thing is that if you are going 8 mph and hit something the object you hit and the vehicle are both going to absorb some of the impact and the chances of your air bag going off is slim. If the impact is not even distributed across the entire front end of the car then the air bags are less likely to go off at a slower rate of speed.
