"Centrifugal Force" ( Latin for "center fleeing") is often used to describe why mud gets spun off a spinning tire, or water gets pushed out of the clothes during the spin dry cycle of your washer. It is also used to describe why we tend to slide to the outer side of a car going around a curve.

This is refered to as the CENTRIFUGAL force. This force is not due to something actually pushing you in that direction, but by your body's inertia trying to keep you moving in a straight line. The car is actually curving around in front of you and intercepting you in your straight line path.
