In what has to be the closest thing to a USB adding machine ever created, Kensington has unveiled a Keypad/Calculator which is sure to be quickly adopted by any and all number crunchers. This USB peripheral which comes in the form of a standalone numeric keypad also carries with it 19-key financial calculator functions.

Despite my reservations, it is the best windows calculator program I've seen. I particularly like the ability to annotate entries by including text on the tape ... "Banking & Finance" benefit from all of the functions you expect from a mechanical adding machine plus capabilities associated with a Windows environment...

Your Pocket Adding Machine (YPAM) is designed to function like an adding machine/calculator with a running tape. As calculations are completed, they are added to a running list. Items in the list can then be easily changed.

TEACHING IDEAS: Use the function machine to stimulate discussion during a mental maths starter session. Develop an effective strategy for choosing the numbers to INPUT into the machine. Ensure children can predict answers for other numbers before revealing the program.

But then I had an idea as to how the divide by two mechanisms from my first marble machine could be cascaded together to actually function as a sort of adder register, or counter. Once I had that idea, I knew I had ... And a few months later, I spent a couple of days in my workshop and built my binary marble adding machine.
