Jurisdiction/Place: What does adjudication withheld mean? I am in Florida and I am trying to expunge my records and the states attorney denied my request because he said adjucation was withheld. I have applied for employment and when a background check is done the record show this ugly incident.

So, will that be a reason for a denial for purchasing a firearm in Florida in a FFL dealer background check? I was told by many including lawyers that I'm fine and I can legally own a firearm. However, telling someone that you were never convicted of the crime is the truth but presents a problem when a background check is conducted because your "arrest record" for that crime will show up. Some employers see the arrest record and do not understand what a "disposition: adjudication withheld" means.

I have an adjudication withheld for strong arm robbery. It come up on my background check as an felon, am I eligible to get my records seal or do I have to carry copies of the court judgment with me. I completed and paid all fines and probation and received early release from probation granted by the court.

Thus if you have adjudication withheld you are not "convicted" of the crime although you are still found to be guilty of the crime. It does not hide what he was charged with, it will still show on a background check.
