The African Side-necked Turtles or African Mud Turtles have gained in popularity in recent years. There are 15 species in the Pelusios genus, along with a single member in the Pelomedusa genus, Pelomedusa subrufa, known as the African Helmeted Turtle.

West African Mud Turtle ... Notes: Much like Pelomedusa subrufa, the African Helmeted Turtle, this species is imported regularly. Again, like P. subrufa, CB offspring are not commonly available. Most of the imported turtles end up in pet shops, where they probably end up as "pets" or single specimens in collections.
