Agile Manufacturing (or Agile Competition) is an umbrella term that embraces a wealth of ideas. It is not some vague concept of how a company should be run five to ten years from now, it is how many businesses are being run today, not only to survive but to excel.

The concept of Fast and Flexible Manufacturing, also referred to as Agile Manufacturing, was introduced in 1991 by a government-sponsored research effort at Lehigh University.
