Is Alewife a safe place to do so? I understand the garage fills up early on weekdays, I am wondering what time in the afternoon do spaces start to become available. We were thinking about staying outside of Boston f ... If Alewife doesn't work for you, you have other options, such as Wellington station on the Orange Line (it's right off of I-93) which also has a ton of parking (garage or open lot) and costs about the same as Alewife.

The new $30 million parking garage at Route 128 Station, which serves commuter rail passengers, does indeed have plenty of available space. But the reason for this may be ... add land costs, taxes and management costs, and the daily rate would be about $6. The most expensive MBTA garage (Alewife) only charges $4 per day.

Response from Sue Bass, Vice President, Belmont Citizens Forum - May 8, 2003 ... Traffic in the area is so jammed that the MBTA has refused to expand its Alewife parking garage (now only five stories but designed to be expanded to seven) because additional parking would attract more motorists to the area.
