That's a sloppy 'kludge'. It's best to "see" the notes in the original range. If you can read treble and bass clef, you will see the alto clef as a synthesis of both–and the notes read and sound in the proper register.

IT IS NOT THE VIOLA CLEF, IT IS THE ALTO CLEF FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!!! i take it you can read the treble clef right? well if you can, learning the name s of notes for the ALTO clef should be easy. basicall all you do ids move the note down 1 interval on the treble clef to find the name of the not on the ALTO clef!!!!
