On September 2, 1998, with Don Wood as backup, I tried a mixture of diesel and ammonium nitrate. The video isn't very interesting, but here is the audio of that failure (AwCrap.wav -- a 280 Kbyte WAV file). Don did the video taping and was the inspiration for the title of the files.

It is a mix of ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel oil. It is mainly used for both open pit and underground mining because of its low cost and safety (as compared to other explosives). Often times TNT will be added to mixtures like ANFO in order to make a more powerful explosion.
