Operational amplifier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An operational amplifier , which is often called an op-amp , is a DC-coupled high-gain electronic voltage amplifier with differential inputs and, usually, a single output. Typically the output of ...

Application Report SBOA092A October 2001 HANDBOOK OF OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER APPLICATIONS Bruce Carter and Thomas R. Brown ABSTRACT While in the process of reviewing Texas Instruments applications notes, including those from Burr-Brown I uncovered a couple of treasures, this handbook on op amp applications and one on...

Indeed, a notable application of multiple inputs to a non-inverting amplifier is the R-2R ladder network used in some digital to analog conversion circuits. But unless you're prepared to do some very careful analysis and circuit testing, you should avoid multiple inputs to this circuit.

Although the standard op amp configuration is as an inverting amplifier, there are some applications where such inversion is not wanted. Since the op amp itself is actually a differential amplifier, there is no reason why it cannot be configured to operate in a non-inverting mode.

The inverting amplifier is a particularly useful form of circuit to be able to use. It can take many forms, but when talking of an inverting amplifier, its realisation is normally associated with the use of operational amplifiers.

The Non-Inverting Amplifier, a high input impedance non-inverting circuit. ... Applications cautions are the same for this amplifier as for the inverting amplifier with one exception. The amplifier output will go into saturation if the input is allowed to float. This may be important if the amplifier must be switched...

The inverting amplifier ( 4.1) and Schmitt trigger (4.8) are mandatory for everyone. Of the remaining circuits, choose at least 4. Whether you use a LM741 or LF411 op amp is up to you, but in at least one circuit, compare the two.
