Apart from the infinite sets of regular-based prisms and anti-prisms, there are only thirteen convex semi-regular polyhedra. These are known as the Archimedean Solids. The first of these has the symmetry of the regular tetrahedron.

The aforementioned icosidodecahedron is in fact an Archimedean solid because it consists of 20 equilateral triangular faces and 12 regular pentagonal faces.

An Archimedean solid is a semi-regular (ie vertex-uniform, but not face-uniform) convex polyhedron with regular polygons for faces. Compare to Platonic solids, which are face-uniform, and Johnson solids, which need not be vertex-uniform.
