Can anyone confirm if these are Cherry Plums ? I found several trees today laden with fruit. Also wondering if they can be mistaken for anything poisonous. Opening opening they smell and look like plums. Thanks for any help.

I am supposing your fruitless plum is Purple Pony Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera). At any rate, I am sure it is a member of the genus Prunus which includes peaches, plums, apricots, cherries and chokecherries. ... Look, feel, smell and taste like little plums. It gets complicated with cherry plums of various sorts (including the dark red ornamental ones), bullace, wild plums and damsons. But you struggle to get any poisonous ones mixed up in there.
