My son was always verbal. He started talking at 16 months and ... So in his case, if I hadn't read about arm flapping being a sign of autism, it would have gone undetected until much later when school would be an issue. Once I started educating myself, I clearly saw so many things, including the sensory stuff.

I know a lot about autism and arm flapping is a big symptom. Not saying he has it---you need a NeuroPsych to diagnose him----but that sort of behavior is known as a "stim" in kids who are autistic and "Hand flapping" is often described as a possible sign.
