Based on these observations, we consider older WHHL-Hh rabbits excellent models for studying atherosclerosis. Because of their genetic and age-related lesions, WHHL-Hh rabbits may be superior to the cholesterol-fed rabbit model with respect to comparability with human atherosclerotic lesions.
