Today, hurricanes are sometimes numbered 12 through 16 using the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, with a Category 1 hurricane bearing Beaufort number 12, a Category 2 hurricane, Beaufort 13, and so on. Category 1 tornadoes on the Fujita and TORRO scales also begin at the end of Category 12 of the Beaufort scale.
