Now if your betta has clamped fins AND is not eating, it is a sign that he is sick. Please see my disease page to try to determine what may be wrong with him. If he acts normal and just does not eat a lot from time to time I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Q: Dear Faith: You often refer to "clenched," "clamped," or "cramped" fins. What do these look like? Do you have photos? Also, is it normal for a betta to not eat much from time to time? He's scaring his mommy.

It looks as though he previously had a case of fin rot that has cleared up before I got him, his fins are thin and much shorter than my other betta, ... Use it the next day - warm it up if you have to. This is the best way to avoid pH shock, which does result in listlessness, avoidance of food, clamped fins, etc.

Anyway I have two betta males, kept seperate of course. They are in about a half gallon of ... What I don't understand is one of the bettas is just sitting near the top or the bottom all day with his fins clamped and he won't eat. The other one is swimming around and eating just fine. Both are still making bubble nests.

Hi I have a male beta, have had him for about 6mos...his fins seem to be clamped, or stuck together...Im not sure of a better way to explain it. Diagnose your sick betta. Understand treatments fish medications ... Most betta illnesses are easily treatable. Please do not euthanise your pet just because it appears to be sick. Occasionally, bettas will get themselves into situations that appear dire but really are quite easy to treat.
