It is over 20 years since Seligman (1970, 1971) introduced the concept of biological preparedness to explain why fears and phobias are so much more likely with certain stimuli (e.g. snakes, spiders) than others, and a glance at contemporary psychology text books suggests that his theory has stood the test of time.
