People And Dogs Society (PADS), free information and advice about all aspects of dog care. "Season" is one of the many terms used for the time when a bitch is fertile and can become pregnant if she is mated by a male dog. Others are coming "in heat", "in use" or "oestrus".

Sep 12, 2008 Hey, I think my bitch is in season. Her vulva has been swollen for the last week, but there still seems to be no bleeding.

When the girls are in season I use 1 tablespoon A.M. and P.M. feedings (poured on the girls food) and this helps to mask the odor. I have found my males will usually continue to eat even when caged in the same room when a bitch in season as long as the girls are on chlorophyll from the first day of their season.

Estrus is the time a bitch can be bred. This can last from 4 to 13 days. Typical this is the 9th to the 12th day of a bitch's season. But I have seen bitches bred as late as the 26th day of season. Determining estrus is critical in determining when to breed (either naturally or with artificial insemination).

When estrus occurs, animals are said to be "in heat" or "in season." Dogs generally have their first estrous cycle at 6-12 months of age. Some females of the large breeds, however, may not have their first estrus until they are 12-24 months of age.

Plus Marissa's sister is such a little bitch. Who wants to watch her? Really. It seems like this season cannot be saved, but since I am dedicated, I will watch it anyways. Thanks for the review.
