Beautiful photos and info about Paradise Fish I have a Black Paradise Fish. I had him in a community tank with Danios, otos, cory cats and a Saimese Algae Eater. He attacked one of the danios and killed him. He also sucked the eye out of the SAE. He is a beautiful fish, but is aggressive.

The upper body and head are spotted in black. Young Paradise fish may be kept together, but like Bettas, males will fiercy fight to the death if kept together. A male may also mistake fish such as gouramis or Bettas as its own, and attack it viciously.

Additional: In older books this fish has been described as a "black form" of M. opercularis. This error has been copied by many recent books, even in Baensch and Riehl, 1985(Aquarien Atlas I). Update: The current official name is now Macropodus spechti.
