Virtually all modern airliners now use glass cockpits, old mechanical instruments are replaced with computer screens. This helps the pilots a great deal as less room is needed for all the dials. In the original 747 series there were 3 crew, 2 were pilots and one was the engineer who watched a huge bank of dials.
