On opening the packet I was suprised at how soft the nappies felt. ... I found that they kept Ciaran superbly dry - even if he had been wearing the nappy for quite a while. One thing I have noticed though is little crystals on his skin if he has had a nappy on for some time (I think these are part of the inner of the nappy).

But hospital is rather different and many children who are dry at night at home wet the bed in hospital, so it makes sense to put all children in nappies 'just in case'. It is also easier for the staff as this is a mixed ward, for children to be kept in nappies and also when you are taken to theatre and afterwards.
