Cephalochordata is a small taxon of 30 species in only two genera, Branchiostoma and Epigonichthyes (= Asymmetron ). Cephalochordates are generally known by the common name "lancelet" and those used in laboratories are usually referred to as "amphioxus", from a now obsolete generic name.
