Igneous Breccia: A term used for a rock composed angular fragments of igneous rocks. "Flow breccia" and "pyroclastic breccia" could be called "igneous breccia". Impact Breccia: A deposit of angular rock debris produced by the impact of an asteroid or other cosmic body.

A photo gallery of sedimentary rocks by Geology.com ... Sedimentary rocks are formed by the accumulation of sediments. There are three basic types of sedimentary rocks: 1) clastic sedimentary rocks such as breccia, conglomerate, sandstone and shale, that are formed from mechanical weathering debris;

Breccia is a term that has been applied to non-sedimentary rocks of igneous origin too. At times there are situations in the formation of igneous rocks that produce angular fragments that solidify with a breccia like texture. These rocks are sometimes referred to as breccia, but are not sedimentary and it is...

Breccia Broken Breccias Fragments Rocks Shatter Cementation Economy. ... The intrusion of plutonic rocks will often shatter the invaded country rock, producing a shatter breccia. In the case of plutonic rocks partly cooled and subsequently broken by further invasions of magma, intrusive breccias are formed.

Breccia is a rock formed from angular gravel and boulder-sized clasts cemented together in a matrix. The angular nature Cataclastic breccias are produced by the fragmentation of rocks during faulting. Volcanic breccias (agglomerates) comprise blocks of lava in an ash matrix and are the product of an explosive eruption.

Breccia is similar to conglomerate in that it consists of coarse-grained fragments surrounded by finer grained material. The fragments in a breccia, however, are sharp and angular, looking as if they were just broken, while those in conglomerates are rounded.

POSSIBLE ORIGINS FOR THE BRECCIA UNITS ... Crystalline and highly indurated rocks exposed to significant stresses and fluid pressures may display extensive brittle deformation, resulting in intense in situ brecciation.
