Loft, bunk or alcove beds save a lot of space, but it is a huge pain to make the bed. CIA International (no relation to the American institution with the same initials) developed this ingenious mechanism to lift and tilt the bed out so that making it is a snap.

What do you make of this idea? We've certainly seen bed alcoves in studio apartments. But what if you were building a very small house? Might you consider a bed alcove in lieu of a bedroom? Thomas Jefferson did it (in his not-very-small house at Monticello):
