you can always ASK to be induced, but whether or not a doctor will attempt it will be based on your Bishop score. This is basically a rating of how ready your body is for delivery (condition of the cervix, dilation, effacement, engagement, ...

We usually do not like to induce any primip without an indication. When you reach your due date, you will probably start to have regular contractions. When you have contractions at the level of your belly button that occur every 3 minutes (...

They can, they likely won't until 42 weeks, however if mom or baby is having a health problem they may induce early because its safer then continuing the pregnancy

Maybe in reply to: anonymous@obgyn.net: "Can I be induced at 37 weeks?" ... I don't know if there is any corollation between having a c-section and induction, but I was induced at 37 weeks for no medical reason.

Being induced at 37 weeks can increase the risk of a cesarean, especially if your cervix isn't ripe or ready. Chances are that you will never experience another stillbirth, although I'm sure the fact that the reason being inconclusive doesn't help you.

Like blood type, hair color, body frame, and almost every other physical characteristic, there is no one rule that fits everyone. Due dates should be taken as a range; some women naturally go two weeks early or late.

I was induced and then had a section with Sabreena at 34 weeks but it wasn't for her safety. It was a miscalculated due date on the ob's part. He thought I was at 37 weeks and I wasn't, obviously. (still a little bitter about that, sorry) Sabreena was born at 5 lbs 4 ozs and was/is perfectly healthy!
