Yes, a judge can do this. He can cancel out the jury's decision and make his own finding. This is totally legal. It is not done often, but it can be done. Think about it, this is why the main person is called the judge. Peace!

The short answer is yes. In the U.S., the Seventh Amendment provides that jury verdicts cannot be reexamined. However, there have always been some exceptions to this rule. If there is no evidence to support the jury's decision, the judge can throw out the verdict (this is called a judgment notwithstanding the verdict).
