Sometimes when I try to eject from itunes, it says that it cannot eject it because files from the iPod are being used by another software. Do you think a reset would help?

Hold down the middle button along with the menu button for 6 seconds and see if it will reset. Then reconnect the ipod and attempt to eject it.

See if iPod appears in the Source list. If so, eject iPod and disconnect it from the computer. If the hard drive continues to spin while displaying the "do not disconnect" message, disconnect it and reset it as described above.

*As a side note, if you have “Enable Disk Use” checked on your iPod screen in iTunes, you will never get the “OK To Disconnect” message. You will have to manually eject your iPod every time you connect it.
