Capillary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Capillaries are the smallest of a body's blood vessels and are part of the microcirculation. They are only 1 cell thick. These microvessels, measuring 5-10 μm in diameter, connect arterioles and venu...

Capillaries are so small that red blood cells can only travel through them in single file. Capillaries measure in size from about 5-10 microns in diameter. Capillary walls are thin and are composed of endothelium (a type of simple squamous epithelial tissue).

Peritubular capillaries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the renal system, peritubular capillaries are tiny blood vessels that travel alongside nephrons allowing reabsorption and secretion between blood and the inner lumen of the nephron. Ions and mine...

Unlike the arteries and veins, capillaries are very thin and fragile. The capillaries are actually only one epithelial cell thick. They are so thin that blood cells can only pass through them in single file. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place through the thin capillary wall.

The microscopically thin walls of the alveoli allow inhaled oxygen to move quickly and easily from the lungs to the red blood cells in the surrounding capillaries. At the same time, carbon dioxide moves from the blood in the capillaries into the alveoli.
