A catcher's balk is ruled against the pitcher. (It's the pitcher's responsibility to pitch when the catcher is in the correct position.) In a balk, only baserunners advance. A batter cannot reach base on a balk.

I'm an old catcher (78 years of age). Many years ago I was called for committing a "Catcher's Balk." I happened to move to the right of the plate just before the delivery of the pitch. Is this still in the rule book?

Catcher's Balk Amateur Baseball ... Agreed. Besides, there is no "catcher's balk" so the ump is a bit ignorant to yell that out. True, the catcher can cause a balk, but the pitcher is charged with the balk no matter what player caused it.

An umpire in a Braves game called a balk on the catcher for having his foot outside the box. Who cares? The strike zone doesn't change for the catcher's setup. An illegal set-up doesn't deceive the batter; he can't see it.

A discussion on another board has me wondering: Would you call a "catcher's balk" that ends a game? I actually saw it happen first-hand a couple of years ago. My son's American Legion team was playing, and they went into extra innings.
